Summer Programming
There are three pieces to summer programming Induction, Summer Institute, and Foundational Training. Each piece of summer programming is designed to give you insight into both Teach For America and the art of teaching. Our hope is to ignite your leadership skills and set you up to be ready for the first day of school.
Induction
Induction is a week long introduction into our region where you will learn our regional charge, meet the staff and the rest of the corps. During this week you will learn more about our community and be engaging in professional development that will set you up for success at Summer Institute. The dates for Induction are May 30th- June4th. If you are planning on flying into the region make sure to fly to McAllen, Texas which will be the closest airport to the Cambira Hotel which we will be providing for you. Please go to our Induction page for more details.
Houston Institute
Houston Institute is a five week intensive teacher training held at the University of Houston during the month of June. Our region along with several others will be in attendance. You will get hands on experience working with students and Teach For America summer staff who will be there to support you. Institute dates are June 4th- July 8th. Please visit the Houston Institute website for more details.
Foundational Training
Once Institute is over we will regroup again in the Rio Grande Valley. During Foundational Training we will focus more on the pedagogy and continue to springboard off of what you have learned at Institute. Learning the many tools teachers use is always evolving and we will be working with you for the next two years to help you improve your skills. Dates for Foundational Training are July 27-28 and August 1-2, 2018. All training will be held at the CEED building at 801 N. Bryan Rd. in Mission, Texas.
